Costco credit card processing is probably a bit of a misnomer, as technically merchants choosing to work with Costco will find that they are actually signing up with Elavon.
This arrangement looks to have been created to provide Costco with the ability to offer customized rate packages to their members, while giving Elavon a more well known name to work with.
The rates that Elavon offers to merchants signing up through Costco are very competitive and many merchants will be happy working with them.
Some of the weakness that come with this relationship is that Costco is not involved in the process anymore than providing merchants with a recommendation. Merchants will be working with Elavon for all their credit card processing needs, so if you are planning on having customer service or statements from Elavon you are in for a surprise.

Advice from Fellow Small Business Owners
Costco Merchant accounts are excellent. They have no extra fees and charge only for processing. No statement fee or batch fee, no annual fee, and no PCI fees. All those additional fees other processors charge add up in a hurry. Their rates are very competitive, too.
Ray,
I’m very interested in learning more about your experience with Costco/Elavon.
As your’s seems to be the exception and not the normal response we have heard from other merchants, and seen on the various “complaint” boards that exist online.
How long have you been with them? Have you had your statement from Costco/Elavon reviewed by a third party for a rate comparison? Etc?

Horrible service – took for ever to get someone on the phone and nobody on the phone could help me – was with them for 6 months and they raised the rates and billed me some undisclosed fees – no courtesy – switched to a new provider – they told me they are the provider but their website clearly states nova and elavon are the providers?
Very bad service-they keep on coming with different reasons that it was the merchant fault at the end they said that my machine malfunctioned not theirs. Would not even give me a break or split the cost with them since I have been a loyal customer. Super told me the company does not let them do that.
The worst credit card company ever. We switched from internet only to a card swipe with them and they didn’t close the internet account and charged us $25/month. We didn’t realize it for a few months and they refused to credit our account. Worst customer service. I’m looking for an alternative now.
